“The Angar-Gutin Settlement 1969-1977”

Summary

53 years ago, the wide Angar Valley in Eastern Wolega, Ethiopia, was uninhabited due to a dense tsetse fly presence so deadly for cattle. It was therefore called ‘The Valley of Death’.

Three years later, 81 farmer families were installed on their own 7.5 ha farms in this area. They prospered, not in the least thanks to the farming techniques they had learned and adopted in the framework of the ‘Angar-Gutin Settlement Project”. The photos hereunder show how.
